Students are expected to file an official program for the degree (Degree Program form) by the time they have completed 10 credits. The Graduate School asks that this be filed at least two terms before your Preliminary Oral Exam.
After completion of the Preliminary Exam and at least one week before the Preliminary Oral Exam, submit the Preliminary Written Examination Report Form (you can get a copy of the signed form from Linda Jagerson).
Schedule the Preliminary Oral Exam with the Graduate School at least one week in advance of the exam. The Preliminary Oral Exam must take place at least one academic term (15 weeks) before the Final Oral Defense.
Within one working day of completion of the Preliminary Oral Examination, submit the signed Preliminary Oral Examination Report form.
The term after passing the Preliminary Oral Examination, submit the Thesis Proposal form.
Anytime after the Thesis Proposal form has been approved by the Graduate School, you can request your graduation packet by clicking here, or visiting 316 Johnston Hall. The Thesis Reviewers Report form will be issued at that time.
Submit an Application for Degree to 200 Fraser Hall by the first working day of the intended month of graduation.
Submit the signed Thesis Reviewer’s Report form and schedule the Final Oral Defense at least one week prior to the exam.
Return the Final Oral Examination Report form no later than one working day following completion of the Final Oral Defense.
Submit a copy of the dissertation abstract and a copy of the dissertation (all signed by the advisor[s]) plus the Microfilm Agreement form and the Survey of Earned Doctorates by the last working day of the intended month of graduation.
Submit one bound copy of your thesis (100% cotton or acid free 20# weight paper) to the department. The binding must be black in color.
As a courtesy, ask your advisor and members of your committee if they would like a copy of your thesis.
The Doctoral degree must be completed by five years from the end of the fall or spring term following the term in which you pass the preliminary oral examination. At the end of the fourth year following the preliminary oral examination, the Graduate School will notify you, your advisor, and the Director of Graduate Studies that you have one year remaining in which to complete all requirements for the degree. If you are unable to complete the degree by the deadline, you may petition the Graduate School for an extension of the five year limit. Petitions for time extensions should be filed no later than early in the term in which the time limit will expire.
